From Short-Term Service to Permanent Commission: The Agniveer Journey

"Agniveer" is a new military rank that means "Fire-Warriors" in English. Under Agnipath scheme recruitment of army people who are not commissioned officers to the Indian Armed Forces, such as soldiers, airmen, and sailors are made. Subject to organisational and merit-based standards, up to 25% of these recruits—known as Agniveers—can join the services on a permanent commission for an additional 15 years after their four-year recruitment phase. Currently, this method is used to recruit all sailors, airmen, and soldiers, with the exception of the medical branch's technical cadre.

Beyond the Call of Duty: Financial Protections for Agniveers

Death on Duty: The family receives a total of Rs 1 crore, which comprises the soldier's unpaid wage as well as the Seva Nidhi package.

Disabled: Depending on how severe the disability is, an Agniveer may be compensated up to Rs 44 lakh. This sum is only given if military service caused the condition or made it worse.

Pensions: Unlike soldiers in the conventional system, Agniveers will not receive a normal pension following their four years of service. A pension will only be available to the 25% who are chosen for permanent commission.

Eligibility Requirements: Applicants must be between the ages of 17.5 and 23 (the highest age limit was raised from 21). There is no such reservation for women under this plan, although girls under the specified age restriction are eligible for the agnipath admission.

Conclusion

The Passing Out Parade of the 02/25 batch at INS Chilka on 8 January 2026 showcased the Indian Navy’s commitment to discipline, excellence, and gender inclusivity. With outstanding performers like Anita Yadav being honored, the ceremony highlighted the merit-driven spirit of the Agnipath scheme. As these Agniveers step into active service, they carry forward the values of duty, honour, and courage, marking the beginning of their proud journey in service to the country.

MSP on kharif crops and it's Impact on farmers

Each cropping season, India’s farmers work tirelessly in their fields – but  uncertainties in weather  and markets can wipe out their gains. Unseasonal rains, droughts, or floods can destroy months of hard work in a matter of days. Even when crops are harvested successfully,  volatile market prices  can push farmers into distress sales, forcing them to sell at rates far below the cost of production. For small and marginal farmers, who depend entirely on agriculture for their livelihood, these risks can mean spiralling debts, loss of income, and even abandonment of farming altogether. This is where the Minimum Support Price (MSP) becomes a lifeline. Minimum Support Price (MSP) is a crucial mechanism through which the government supports farmers by purchasing their crops at a pre-determined price.  MSP Policy and Determination Annually, Government announces Minimum Support Prices (MSPs) for 22 mandated agricultural crops based on the recommendations of...
